Southern Ridges adventure

After the Bukit Timah trekking, we planned to continue our exercise at the Southern Ridges. More information can be found here. I know the whole area is quite big actually, so I only plan to visit the HortPark, to see those nicely laid out garden and flower. There is a bus service 61 which brings you from Bukit Timah to Alexandra Road. What a prefect match!

So, the bus 61 bought us to the bus stop near Alexandra Arch. The first place to visit is of course the HortPark. Once we were at the entrance and the main building, we were impressed by the layout and the design. It was a really nice place. After that, you walk into the garden area, it just blow you away with all the flowers, trees and layout.

Let's see some photo here.

Photobucket
Taken from the main area into the park itself. A fantastic view.

You saw many palm tree before, but I don't think you saw something like this before. The colour is a bit milky white or maybe silver colour. Seeing is believing.

Photobucket
The "paper" flower. One tree with at least 3 different colour. How did they do that?

Photobucket
These flowers were grown inside the glass house. Don't ask me what they called, but they are just simply too beautiful. These are the flowers that are going to appear in the Garden by the Bay.

Photobucket
Very nice cactus. To grow up to this size, it takes some efforts.

After the HortPark, we continue our journey to the Forest Walk using the steel walk way. It was like walking on top of the trees. To be continued in another blog post.

Bukit Timah trekking

For the past Sunday, together with another friend, we went to Bukit Timah for trekking. The objectives are to sweat it out and recharge with negative ion. Do you know that the forest has plenty of negative ion and after a tiring week, you can make a trip there to recharge.

We reach there a bit late at 9:30am I think. The crowd is still there. But, as we are taking the smaller path, it appeared less crowded. It was a good exercise, had plenty of sweat and felt a little bit more relax.

It was a pretty fast journey, we came down after 35min. Along the way, the majority of trees we know is Seraya. The tree trunk surface is a bit reddish and quite a tall tree.

After that, I suggest we pay the newly opened Southern Ridges a visit and continue our journey.

Woodlands jam in action

The photos were taken at the end of Mar when woodlands area was having traffic jam because of the tight security measure.

As early as morning 7:30am, the queue started to build well before the Woodlands centre area.

I alighted at the junction.

Walked some distance to reach the centre area.

Queue beside the centre area.

Shopaholic beware, Great Singapore Sales start tomorrow

Yeah, it is here again for 2008. The Great Singapore Sales would start tomorrow at 23 May 2008 and it would last for two months. For shopaholic, it is time when the purse would bleed again. For the conscious buyer, maybe here is a good chance to combat inflation.

Since we have the inflation at multi year high, now it is time to enjoy the bargain and save some money. But there is a need to differentiate the needs and wants. When you buy the things you need at bargain price, you save. When you buy the wants at bargain price, you waste.

Anyway having sales is better than nothing. Let us enjoy the GSS again.

PS: We also have the Great Stock Sales now, savvy investor can also pick up some bargains.

China sichuan earthquake

This year is sure to go into record book for China. The snow storm at the early of the year, the Olympics torch relay events and now the sichuan earthquake. Later, this year, they still have the Olympics game to host.

We pray all the survivors could be rescued on time and all necessary help is provided to them. Those interested in the donation can approach Singapore red cross society.

Remove watermelon seed while cutting

Today, I just read this article on remove most seed while cutting the watermelon. Just what I am looking for, for a long time.

The steps are here. Remove watermelon seed.

Although the first reaction from reader is you should buy a seedless watermelon. Haha, that's true. But, what if you want to eat the yellow flesh? It is still useful.

Touch screen phone frenzy

There seems to be a rush for the phone manufacturer to launch the touch screen phone, judging by the new model launch in the last 6 months. Probably inspired by the Apple iPhone, they are out to capture the touch screen phone market and it is gonna be the next in-thing. Having saw so many advertisements, review and did a little hands on. I would say it is all hype.

The key draw to iPhone is the user friendliness and revolution interface, provided the touch screen interface is not that difficult to use. However, the touch screen phones by other manufacturer are still using the old generation technology and concept. I tried the one model, the user interface response was very disappointing. The buttons were bigger, but in terms of intuitiveness and the responsiveness of button are still big question mark.

Therefore, I don't fancy getting a touch screen version. That's only personal preference. You might think otherwise.
