Take bus 14 or 65 from Orchard MRT. Alight at the 4th bus stop. See road sign and walk in.
At the same bus stop opposite direction, you can take bus 32 to Lavendar MRT ICA Building.

Process:
1. Reach the high com and exchange visitor pass
2. Once arrived at the office, go to counter to get an application form (SGD0.50)
3. Fill up the form and join the queue. Get all documents ready, they would check.
4. Queue number would be issued and wait for the turn
5. After counter check ok, pay SGD128(subject to change) at payment counter.
6. Get the ticket and come back afternoon 2:30pm

7. In afternoon, exchange the pass and enter again

Thanks for your detailed instructions! I just went to renew my passport today and everything went v smoothly...

Here are some further comments:
Things to prepare:
- You can download the form here: http://www.imi.gov.my/forms/Form_IM.42.pdf (print doublesided). This then saves you the time to queue for the form.

- Make a copy of your Malaysia IC and Singapore IC (front and back) all on the same A4 paper (4 images in total).

- Bring another ID e.g. driver's license or staff card to exchange for a pass at the guard house.

If you reach the place early, say before 8 am, do check which queue you are joining. There are likely to be two queues- one to get a form and one to get a queue number. From where you are standing, the queue for the queue number is the one on the furthest left while the queue for the form is furthest right (it says cashier).

Hope this helps. I reached at 7:45 am and finished everything by 8:45 am today (Friday). By the time I left at 8:45 am, the queue was really quite long...

Hihi,

I have some question to ask...
1) Do you obtain appintment date before process to High Com?

2) You mean passport is ready to collect in the same day afternoon?

3) So, only time to High com & you can get your renew passport done?

Thanks!

B/R, Chin

Actually, the steps are already quite clear in above. No appointment and same day.

Also not to be fooled by the staff there about you cannot wear spectacle in your passport photos if you bring your own. It is acceptable to wear spectacle, they just want to earn money ($6 for 4 photos). The photo can be 3.5x4.5cm, not necessary 3.5x5cm according to the application form. ps. MUST be blue background.

Pls take note that I renewed my passport on 25 March 2009 and they give me expire day on 25 March 2014. Even though my old passport will expired on 6 April 2009. That mean I "rugi" about 12 days. So plan your date for renewal if you don't want to "rugi".

Hi all, many thanks for the informative post and comments. However I would like to seek clarifications for the following:
1. As I do not have my birth cert with me, is it ok to leave that part blank in the application form IM.42?

2. What time does the photo taking service open? and is can I collect the photo instantly after taking them or I would need to wait for some time maybe next day?

Many thanks.

coolboystore said...

1. no need birth cert only for yr baby or child.

2. the photo taking start once the door is opened. good to prepare $6 in $1 coin for 4 photos. u can take the photos on the spot about 5 minutes time. not worry as there will be embassy staff to assist u.

Do I take photograph first and then queue?

Or Queue first and then take photograph when it's my turn?

I'll reached there at 7.30am, is the photo taking counter open already?

Thanks!

Alen said...

If you worry so much, why don't you take your photo before going there?

Should take your queue no first, as it would be a long wait.

I went to renew my malaysia passport today and below are my additional comments:

1. They now need 3 photos instead of 2 because they are doing some information gathering. If you have spouse and / or children, please take note of information like IC number, birth cert number. There is also this part asking the reason why we are in singapore and how long we intend to stay in singapore. Not sure what is the intention but I just give them anyway.

2. The charge is S$124 as at 23 September 2009. This is for normal malaysia international passport. Please do bring enough change. In fact, bring extra in case you forgot to photocopy IC, work permit, PR IC, or need extra photos.

3. For the reentry permit, you can do it online at www.ica.gov.sg if you have a singpass. If you do not have, can apply through ww.cpf.gov.sg. Click on Log in to singpass and apply for new one. It is entirely online and free of charge.
If not, you can go down to ICA building 5th floor to get it done. They will give you the reentry permit in an A4 paper. Keep that in your passport at all time. Good idea to make a photocopy.

4. Another thing to note is the usefulness of your pass number. The smaller your pass number, the faster you get a queue number in the morning.
For collection in afternoon 2.30pm, try to arrive earlier to get the pass because the order to get passport depends on your pass number.

5. Also for collection, one of the staff said that the applicant him/herself should be present and be the one to collect it.

said...

Oh, one more thing. The address should be your singapore address.

For elderly, parent with very young infant, or any other condition / situation that makes it more inconvenient or difficult to wait for long time, do let the guard knows when you are getting your pass.

Such cases will be issued special pass and will cut all the way in front of other people.

Hi
I don't understand Malay. Are the staffs in the High Com able to communicate with me in English?
Or do I have to bring along someone who can communicate in Malay with me.

Thanks

I just got my passport renewed on 22nd Oct 2009. Everything went smoothly. No need appointment. Just walk in and take queue number.

1. Change your pass for "I" pass in the morning. Change for "Q" pass at 2pm. Morning pass cannot use for afternoon pass.

2. Effective from 1st July. Download the form at http://www.imi.gov.my/images/Forms/Form_IM.42.pdf
Print double sided. Bring your original passport, Malaysia IC, EP Green Card.

3. Take your queue no. first. Then only go for photocopy service and take passport photo. Photocopy 30cent and Passport photo $6. They will cut for you and put into small white envelope. Photocopy your IC and EP pass on the same page.

4. Put your Singapore address under "Alamat Semasa". Not your Malaysia address.

5. Bring along the info for your emergency contact no. and address in Malaysia.

6. The charge is S$124 as at 22 Oct 2009. Get the receipt with your queue number. You will use it to collect back your passport.

7. No handphone in the waiting area. No food and drink.

8. There are vending machines outside.

9. Toilet is outside - near vending machine.

10. Reminder. If your passport is expiring on 5th May 2010, please renew it on 4th Nov 2009. Dont renew it earlier. Cause the officer told me that they will give max. 5 years + 6 months.

11. If you need to get your EP chop on your new passport, please go to MOM. Take Queue "F" and go to Level 2 - Counter 10-12. If can be done within 5 min. I did it within the same day after i collect the passport.

12. They now need 3 photos instead of 2 because they are gathering info on Malaysians working in Singapore.

13. Be there yourself to renew and collect the passport. Need your finger print and signature.

14. No need birth certificate.

my passport will be expiring in August. Someone told me I can renew my passport 1 month before my passport is expired and I will not have any problem to come/go to Singapore/Malaysia since I am a SPR. I am not sure whether this is true as my understanding is to renew our passport 6 months before the expiry date. Please advise.

My mum (a Malaysian staying in Singapore) is wheelchair-bounded and her passport is expiring soon. So, I was wondering if it is possible to submit an online renewal application, thus spare her the journey, queuing and waiting ?

Hi! Thank you for your information. However, some details changed! Please refer my blog for those details: http://www.wretch.cc/blog/AngelBaby1/32057466

BTW they start as early as 7.30am where you can collect the form. You can also go earlier ard 1.30 pm for collection as they use the admission number tag number that you exchanged at the guard house as queue number.

While I am not promoting any photo studio service, I got mine done at a studio at Square 2 at Novena in the basement where they shoot on a blue back ground (tell them you are making M'sian passport and need it to be blue background)and best of all, they do touch up digitally (eye bags, flying hair, etc)your photo (FOC) so you look smarter! However slightly pricier but worth it rather than the haphazard picture taking at the High Comm machine where you only have 1 try so you have to really bug out your eyes to wait for the photo capture..Ha ha vanity..
